James Creese served as president of Drexel University from 1945 to 1963. Born in Leedsdale, Pa., in 1896, he earned degrees from Princeton University and served in army during the First World War before becoming general secretary of the American-Scandinavian Foundation. In 1928 he became president and treasurer of the Stevens Institute of Technology. As Drexel's president, Dr. Creese presided over unprecedented growth in the department of engineering.
